WALTER

Walter Parks grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, which was once a quaint redneck town. It is a mixture of that area’s church piano, country steel guitar and Okefinokee swamp banjo styles that Walter borrowed from to make the Swamp Cabbage sound. To this day, fantastic black gospel groups and amazing trailer trash country pickers abound there yet are barely noticed. One could say that when Walter left town for New York he took a little bit of it all with him.
For the last four years, Walter has toured the U.S., Europe, Australia and Canada with Richie Havens as his lead guitarist. Walter considers it a high honor and a blessing to hold the position. When Richie’s schedule allows, Walter takes Swamp Cabbage on the road mostly performing east coast venues.
Because he buys all the Guild Starfire guitars that he can find, Walter and his incredibly beautiful wife Margo must live in Jersey City as opposed to the high security Manhattan luxury towers where the other two Swamp Cabbage members reside.
